Age UK Home Insurance offers a range of cover options for you to choose from.
Buildings insurance
Buildings insurance covers your home and fixtures and fittings, garages, garden walls, gates, hedges, fences, paths, drives and patios, carports, permanently fixed hot tubs or jacuzzis, hard tennis courts and outbuildings.
- Accidental breakage to fixed glass and ceramic hobs built into cookers that are permanent fixtures in your home, sanitary fixtures and fittings in your home and solar panels.
- Professional fees and costs incurred as a result of damage insured under your policy.
- The cost of repairing accidental breakage to the fabric of cables, underground pipes, drains and tanks.
- Rent and alternative accommodation up to 20 per cent of your maximum claim limit.
- Up to £2 million for your legal liability as a property owner
- Damage caused by emergency services up to your maximum claim limit.
- ‘New for old’ cover.
- Accidental loss of metered water or oil in domestic heating systems up to your buildings maximum claim limit.
Contents insurance
Protection for your household goods, valuables, money, credit cards and personal belongings in your home and garden.
- Accidental breakage in your home to fixed glass in mirrors, glass tops to furniture and ceramic hobs in free-standing cookers.
- Replacement of external locks if keys are lost or stolen.
- Rent and alternative accommodation up to 20 per cent of your maximum claim limit.
- Up to £5,000 if a member of the family suffers a fatal injury as a result of certain causes covered in your policy.
- Public and personal liability up to £2 million.
- Liability for domestic staff up to £10 million.
- Tenant’s liability for damage to the building (up to 20 per cent of the maximum claim limit).
- Accidental damage to TVs, videos, audio equipment and personal computers in the home.
- ‘New for old’ cover.
- Accidental damage to wheelchairs and stairlifts in the home
- Accidental loss of metered water or oil in domestic heating systems up to your contents’ maximum claim limit.
- Theft of money from your home by bogus officials.
- Garden cover up to £1,500 for loss or damage to hedges, lawns and plants.
Personal legal protection
Up to £50,000 to pursue or defend legal disputes. You can add this to your policy for a small extra cost.
Personal belongings away from the home
This is available when you take out contents insurance. It provides wider cover for your personal property – not just inside your home, but anywhere in the world.
You can also add:
- Unspecified personal belongings for items with an individual value of up to £2,000†
- Personal money (up to £500) and credit cards (up to £1,000)
- Pedal cycle (up to £300) and mobile phone (up to £300)
- Wheelchairs and pavement vehicles (up to £2,000)
- Any item you decide to specify will be individually listed in your schedule. A professional valuation not more than two years old will be required as proof of value and ownership, in the event of a claim for any specified item valued at £2,500 or above.
Excess
You pay the first £45 part of each claim for loss or damage (£1,000 for subsidence, ground heave or landslip under the buildings section; £100 for a property under ten years old; £245 for escaping water claims).
Eligibility
You can take out Age UK Home Insurance providing your home is:
- occupied solely by you and your family
- your permanent residence
- in the UK, Isle of Man or the Channel Islands
- free from subsidence and underpinning
- where the cost of rebuilding does not exceed £500,000
- is not a grade 1 listed building
- for buildings cover, the property must be owned by you
Cover cannot be provided if you or anyone living with you has:
- had a previous insurance subjected to increased terms or conditions or cover withdrawn or refused
- been declared bankrupt or has a current County Court Judgement made against them
